Lost Weekend

Last weekend at the Old Bar. Can't remember the name of the band on the top picture, but we were lucky to see a couple of band play at the end of the night.

Barb waters at Caringbush in Abbotsford. Some Nice peddle/slide guitar.

 Quickly caught Mooney Valley drifters at Yorshire Stingo playing some Hank Williams.

 The Bulls Beand and Lind, from The Dacios at Marquis of Lorne. Amazing Voice.

James McCann & Jacky Winter

The Old Bar on Tuesday 6th of April, Free

 A lone guitar before James McCann started playing (you can find this picture at redbubble)

James McCann played half a set just instrumental and other half by himself plus his own vocals. His instrumentals are great, painting a picture with the use of a guitar. Play with him for the first half was Rui Pereira, who had an exhibition upstairs and also better known as guitarist in The Drones.

Ventured into the Old Bar on Friday to see Richie play with his band the Brides of Christ. Did happen to hear a little of Howl at the Moon, very tight and Toot Toot Toot, very challenging.


Richie was really intense on stage, really getting into the moment, dancing into the crowd. Also the guitar was really tight, and the whole band too.

SDS & Fire Fire! at The Old Bar

Fire Fire! - Isolation

I think SDS started playing first, who I gather are a new act, four piece from Melbourne. I quickly came to a conclusion they were Grunge, not really punk or rock. But an Epic Experimental Grunge. The first song they played was a great instrumental, but I thought the singing wasn't too polished.

When I first heard the above track I thought of Frans Ferdinand but they list some of there influences on there MySpace as At the drive-in, The Killers, The Strokes and Interpol, and could even here a tad of Joy Division. Unfortunately I only got to here a couple of songs by Fire Fire! and then had to leave, so I also missed out on Little Killing.

I=IT and Young Husband at the Old Bar

I haven't ventured into the old bar for a while, probably not since back in 2001 when a work mate used to play there religiously at there open mic night.

It still has all the second hand furniture, which can be annoying and also comfortable. Makes it hard to find a seat if you come in late with all these old kitchen tables and chair around, especially if your a single loner (like myself) or a group of people, where to you stand when there is no room, room that is taken up by tables. Maybe customized furniture would be the answer, but maybe that would make it not look as cool, but a least you could fit more people in more comfortably.

I think the first band was I=IT (please correct me if I'm wrong), they're a duo, who play this dark electro stuff, one guy on keyboards and the other on vocals. The next group that came up was Young Husband who play this Rock (Motor Rock maybe you could call it that) with female vocals, which totally change the mood of the place. Two extremely different groups back to back. They also reminded me of something that came of the 90's which I can't remember all that well.

Did however miss out on Goofang, I think the trendy kids with there new found fondness of flannel was giving me a headache.
